  • Carpet Preconditioning: Its Impact on Cleaning (157 KB)

    This study is the first examination of the effect of the recommended practice of detergent application compared to the frequently employed practice. Manufacturers of carpets, cleaning equipment, and detergents all recommend the detergent solution be applied as a spray, agitated, and allowed time to emulsify the soil (dwell time) before extraction with clear water.

  • Cases of Effective Carpet Cleaning (258 KB)

    This paper examined several studies of the effects of cleaning carpet and other flooring materials on the indoor environment. All reviewed studies showed beneficial effects from cleaning of all flooring materials, and that the cleaning processes had few but, at worst, very transitory adverse effects. A variety of environments were studied in the reviewed papers.

    This is a comprehensive review of ergonomic issues related to flooring. It addresses the needs of the aging population relative to each issue. All reviewed attributes showed carpet provides positive benefits in most cases.

  • The carpet and flooring industry employs 29,830 workers in 227 establishments in Georgia with a payroll topping an estimated $3 billion – the largest of any manufacturing sector in the state.
  • Georgia is also home to 9 of the top 20 carpet manufacturers in the U.S.
