SOA Cleaning Solutions Program Adds Five New Products

CRI Seal of ApprovalCRI is proud to announce the addition of five new cleaning solutions under the CRI Seal of Approval Program, upping the total to 208 products now certified in the program. The trend of more and more solutions earning certification as word continues to spread that some carpet manufacturers have made a decision to tie carpet warranties to the use of CRI SOA- approved products.

Varsity Contractors, Inc. has a trio of new products on the list including: Traffic Pro 1 (pre-spray); Traffic Pro 2 (pre-spray); and Rinse Pro (in-tank). Varsity Contractors is headquartered in Pocatello, ID. Dynachem Green Preconditioner, a pre-spray made by Cobb Carpet Supply out of Dallas, TX, also earned certification along with Emerald Clean Spot Free, an in-tank product manufactured by Raleigh, NC-based Professional Carpet Systems.

Each product passed a series of stringent tests performed by an independent laboratory in order to make the list of cleaning solutions. The tests for spot removers, pre-sprays and in-tank solutions include protocols for efficacy (removing stains), resoiling (whether the product attracts soil at an accelerated rate), pH (excessively acid or alkaline products can affect dyes and fibers), optical brighteners (can adversely affect color, appearance and performance) and colorfastness to light (residues on pile yarn can accelerate color change).

Trio of Vacuum Cleaners Awarded SOA/Green Label Designation

Green Label/SOA Vacuums - Gold, Silver, Bronze FanA total of three new vacuum cleaners have earned the designation as Green Label/Seal of Approval Approved vacuum cleaners.

The new Seal of Approval/Green Label vacuum program is a tiered program with bronze level requiring a 10% improvement of cleaning performance over the existing Green Label program. A gold level machine must also meet a higher dust containment standard. The new gold standard requires that a machine has no more than 35 micrograms of dust particle emission. The old standard allowed for 100 micrograms of dust particle emission.

All three vacuum cleaners are manufactured by Tacony Corporation, based in Fenton, MO. The CleanMax ProSeries CMPS-1N, the CleanMax ProSeries CMPS- 1T, and the CLeanMax ProSeries CMPS-QD each earned a silver level designation in the program.

To earn the CRI Seal of Approval/Green Label certification, vacuums must pass the following independent laboratory tests:

  • Soil removal - CRI uses NASA-enhanced x-ray fluorescence technology to measure the precise amount of soil removed from carpet.
  • Dust containment - The vacuum must not release more than 100 micrograms of dust particles per cubic meter of air, keeping dirt and dust locked tight in the vacuum - not escaping back into the air where it can be breathed.
  • Carpet texture retention - The vacuum must not affect the texture of the carpet more than a one-step change based on one year of normal vacuum use.

There are now a total of 36 certified vacuums in the recently announced program.

NSS Enterprises Adds Another to SOA Extractor Program

SOA Extractor - Gold, Silver, Bronze FanNSS Enterprises, Inc. continues to add to its product lines certified under the Seal of Approval category for extractor equipment with the addition of another machine to the program. The NSS Stallion 8SC earned a bronze certification.

NSS Enterprises, Inc. is headquartered in Toldeo, OH, and now has two extractors certified in the program assuring customers that it removes stains and soil from carpet without damaging the carpet pile or causing resoiling problems.

The CRI Seal of Approval program tests the effectiveness of carpet cleaning equipment and certifies deep cleaning extractors that effectively remove soil without damage to the carpet. Not all extractors are good enough to earn this distinction; the blue and green seal helps customers recognize they are buying quality products. An independent laboratory administers the CRI Seal of Approval testing for extractors. To quality for the Seal, extractors must meet stringent standards in all three-test categories:

  • Amount of soil removed from the carpet
  • Amount of residual moisture removed from the carpet from a wet cleaning process
  • Impact of the equipment on carpet fibers and appearance

In addition, soil removal efficiency is rated on three levels. Extractors that exceed average soil removal receive a Bronze Seal rating. Those achieving higher soil removal receive a Silver rating and those receiving the highest level of measurable soil removal are awarded a Gold level Seal of Approval. A total of 79 extractors have earned SOA certification.
