New Pair of Solutions Earn SOA Designation

CRI Seal of ApprovalThe addition of two cleaning solutions into the CRI Seal of Approval family continues the trend of more and more solutions earning certification as word continues to spread that some carpet manufacturers have made a decision to tie carpet warranties to the use of CRI SOA- approved products.

One of the new SOA products is a pre-sprays, while the other qualified in the in-tank solution category bringing the total of approved products to 150 in the solution portion of the SOA program.

Claire Green Heavy Duty Carpet Pre-spray 307 and Claire Green Carpet Extraction Cleaner 308 each passed a battery of tests to earn certification in the respective programs. Both products are manufactured by Claire Manufacturing, headquartered in Addison, IL.

Each product passed a series of stringent tests performed by an independent laboratory in order to make the list of cleaning solutions. The tests for spot removers, pre-sprays and in-tank solutions include protocols for efficacy (removing stains), resoiling (whether the product attracts soil at an accelerated rate), pH (excessively acid or alkaline products can affect dyes and fibers), optical brighteners (can adversely affect color, appearance and performance) and colorfastness to light (residues on pile yarn can accelerate color change).

Nilfisk-Advance Has 11th Extractor Certified Under SOA

SOA Extractors - Gold, Silver, Bronze FanThe Advance Adphibian became the latest extractor manufactured by Nilfisk-Advance to earn certification under the Seal of Approval category for extractor equipment. The Adphibian is the 11th extractor in Nilfisk-Advance's line to earn certification.

Nilfisk-Advance is headquartered in Plymouth, MN and the Advance Adphibian is listed as a self-contained machine earning certification at the bronze level, assuring customers that it removes stains and soil from carpet without damaging the carpet pile or causing resoiling problems.

Each of these units can now assure customers that their extractors removes stains and soil from carpet without damaging the carpet pile or causing resoiling problems at the highest of levels.

The CRI Seal of Approval program tests the effectiveness of carpet cleaning equipment and certifies deep cleaning extractors that effectively remove soil without damage to the carpet. Not all extractors are good enough to earn this distinction; the blue and green seal helps customers recognize they are buying quality products. An independent laboratory administers the CRI Seal of Approval testing for extractors. To quality for the Seal, extractors must meet stringent standards in all three-test categories:

  • Amount of soil removed from the carpet
  • Amount of residual moisture removed from the carpet from a wet cleaning process
  • Impact of the equipment on carpet fibers and appearance

In addition, soil removal efficiency is rated on three levels. Extractors that exceed average soil removal receive a Bronze Seal rating. Those achieving higher soil removal receive a Silver rating and those receiving the highest level of measurable soil removal are awarded a Gold level Seal of Approval. A total of 72 extractors have earned SOA certification.

CRI Has Visibility at Government Events

CRI's Jenn Mendez traveled to Philadelphia recently to participate in the Democratic Governor's Association (DGA) Fall Forum on Innovation. She presented information on the Carpet America Recovery Effort (CARE). She talked about the recycling of post-consumer carpet, the types of products created using recycled carpet as well as the job creation as a result of the entrepreneurs investing in the CARE program. The presentation was very well received. Governor Edward Rendell (PA), who was moderating the panel, praised her discussion. Governor Kathleen Sebelius (KS) and Governor Brian Schweitzer (MT) asked during the panel to follow-up with her regarding their state's M.O.U as well as for additional CRI information.

Mendez also participated in a first-of-its kind meeting. The National Academies of Science hosted a conference to work toward helping scientists and public policy makers work together. The convocation, entitled "State Science and Technology Policy Advice: Issues, Assets and Opportunities" was held on the University of California-Irvine Campus. The conference is the first step toward bridging the gap between science and the formation of good public policy.
